Newish is a marketplace for buying and selling secondhand clothes, built to make listing something take about thirty seconds instead of twenty minutes.

To sell, tap Sell (+) in the bottom of the app, and add a photo of your item. Our AI reads the photo and fills in the title, description, tags, and a suggested price for you based on comparable items around the internet. Change anything you like, confirm your price, and hit Publish. Everything is editable — you’re always in control of your listing.

When your item sells, the buyer pays a discounted market rate for shipping, and we create the shipping label for you. Just download it from the order screen, print it, and drop the package off within two days. No trips to the post office to buy postage, no guessing at shipping costs.

To buy, browse the feed, search by style, or filter by item type, or vibe. When you find something you want, Buy Now takes one tap using your saved card or your Newish Wallet balance. Shipping is calculated for you and shown before you confirm, so there are no surprises at checkout.

Getting paid happens through your Newish Wallet. Your earnings land there when the item sells and become available to withdraw once the buyer has received it and the dispute window has closed. From there you can transfer to your bank account or leave in your Newish Wallet for future purchases. All data is encrypted and handled by Stripe, so you know its safe.

Planning a drop? “Capsules” let you group listings together and schedule them to go live all at once — handy if you’re clearing out a closet and want to post everything at the same moment, and share a link in your socials or with friends.

To get started you’ll need to sign in with email, Google or Apple and verify your phone number. You must be 18 or older (or have parental consent), and we currently only ship within the US via USPS.

There are three simple ways to find things, and they all work together.

Browse the feed. Open the app and you’ll land on a scrollable photo feed of listings. It’s sorted by most recent by default, so you’re always seeing what just came in. You can toggle the display to show price low-to-high or high-to-low from the sort options.

Search by keyword. Type anything into the search bar at the top and hit enter. We search across listing titles, descriptions, and tags, so a search for “linen” will find items where the seller mentioned it anywhere. One thing to know: running a new search clears any filters you had active, so you’re starting fresh each time.

Filter down. This is where Newish gets specific. You can filter by:

  • Gender — who the item is cut for
  • Style/Aesthetic — the overall look, from curated tags
  • Item Type — dresses, denim, outerwear, and so on
  • Color
  • Brand
  • Size
  • Condition — New, Like New, Good, or Fair
  • Price — set your range

Stack as many as you want across any combination of these. Active filters highlight so you can see exactly what’s applied, and a Clear All option appears whenever you have any running.

Because Style and Item Type come from a curated list rather than free text, “cottagecore” always means cottagecore instead of a dozen spellings scattered across the app. That’s what makes filtering actually reliable. (Data integrity = better user experience!)

Save what you like. Tap the heart on any listing to add it to your Wishlist. Saved items stay there even if they sell, so you can keep track of styles you’re drawn to. Swipe or long-press to remove something.

You can browse, search, and build a wishlist without verifying your phone number. You’ll just need to verify before buying or messaging a seller.

Listing is free. You only pay when your item sells.

When it does, Newish takes a 6% commission on the item price. Shipping isn’t included in that calculation — we only take a percentage of what the item itself sold for. So on a $40 sweater, the commission is $2.40 and you keep $37.60.

The buyer pays the shipping cost separately at checkout, and we generate the prepaid label for you.

That’s the whole fee. No listing fees, no monthly charges, no percentage of shipping.

Not yet. Right now every listing has a set price, and buying is a single tap — no haggling, no waiting for a seller to respond, no watching an offer expire.

We know that isn’t what everyone wants, and buyer-initiated offers are on our roadmap.

In the meantime, you can message a seller from any active listing to ask about the price. If they’d like to accept, they can edit their listing to the new amount and you can buy it at the updated price. Worth knowing: while the price is lowered, the item is live for anyone to purchase, so it’s first come, first served.

Not yet. Boosted posts — paid promotion that pushes a single listing higher in the feed — are something we’re building, but they aren’t live today.

Right now every listing competes on the same footing, and there are a few things that genuinely help yours get seen:

Fill in your tags completely. Buyers filter by style, item type, color, brand, size and condition. Every tag you leave off is a filter your item won’t show up in. This is the single biggest thing you control.

Lead with a strong first photo. The feed is image-first, and your primary photo is what people decide on. Natural light, plain background, item filling the frame. You can drag to reorder your photos, so put your best one first.

Time your listing. The feed sorts by most recent by default, so newly posted items get the top of the page. Posting when buyers are browsing gets you more eyes than posting at 4am.

Build your seller status. Sellers who reach Trusted Seller get higher visibility across the marketplace. It’s earned automatically through completed sales, good ratings, and a clean dispute record — no cost, just consistency.

Use Capsules for bigger drops. If you’re listing a lot at once, group them into a Capsule and schedule them to go live together. A coordinated drop lands better than items trickling out one at a time.

Every tag you fill in is a filter you show up in. That’s the whole thing, really — but here’s what it looks like in practice.

Complete every tag. Gender, style, item type, color, brand, size, condition. Buyers filter by all of these, and a listing missing its brand tag simply won’t appear when someone filters for that brand. Our AI pre-fills what it can read from your photos; your job is to check it and fill the gaps.

Make your first photo count. The feed is image-first, and your primary photo is the whole decision for most buyers. Natural light, plain background, item filling the frame. Drag to reorder so your best shot leads.

Use all your photo slots. You get up to eight. Show the front, back, label, fabric, and anything a buyer would want a closer look at. More photos means fewer questions and fewer surprises later.

Be honest about flaws. Photograph the pilling, the stain, the missing button. Buyers are forgiving about wear when they aren’t surprised by it — and an accurate listing is your best protection if a dispute is ever opened.

Price realistically. Our AI suggests a starting range based on the item. You set the final number, but listings priced well outside that range tend to sit.

Write a description worth reading. Search covers your title, description, and tags. Mentioning fabric, fit, measurements, or how it runs makes your item findable in ways tags alone can’t.

Post when people are browsing. The feed sorts by most recent by default, so a fresh listing lands at the top of the page. Evenings and weekends beat 4am.

Individual listings matter, but buyers also decide based on who they’re buying from.

Finish your profile. Add a photo and pick a username you’ll want to keep. A blank profile next to a $60 jacket gives buyers pause.

Save your ship-from address before you list. You can’t publish without one, and having it saved means nothing interrupts you mid-listing.

Set up your payout early. The first time you withdraw, you’ll go through Stripe Connect to add your bank details. Doing that before you have money waiting means no delay when you do.

Ship fast, every time. You have two calendar days from when the label is created. Always ship-by the date shown on your order. Hitting that deadline consistently is the single biggest driver of your seller standing — and missing it cancels the order and refunds the buyer automatically.

Work toward Trusted Seller. It’s earned automatically once you hit our thresholds for completed sales, seller rating, and a low dispute rate. It comes with a badge on your profile and every listing you post. There’s nothing to buy and no application — just consistency.

Consider ID verification. Submitting a government ID gets you an ID-Verified badge after our team reviews it. It’s optional, but it’s a visible trust signal on every listing.

Reply to messages quickly. A buyer asking a question is a buyer close to purchasing. Fast, straightforward answers close sales.

List in batches with Capsules. Clearing out a closet? Group listings into a Capsule and schedule them to drop together. A coordinated release lands better than items trickling out one at a time.

Only when you’re ready to withdraw money you’ve earned, and not before.

Here’s how it breaks down.

To browse, buy, or list: no. You sign in with Google or Apple, verify your phone number, and add a card if you want to buy. That’s it.

To sell: no bank details needed to list or to make a sale. Your earnings go into your Newish Wallet automatically.

To withdraw your earnings: yes. The first time you request a withdrawal, you’ll be walked through a short setup with Stripe, our payment partner, where you’ll add your bank account. Depending on how much you’ve earned, Stripe may also ask for a government ID or the last four digits of your SSN.

Why the SSN question comes up at all: US financial regulations require payment processors to verify the identity of anyone receiving payouts. It’s the same check that applies to any platform that sends you money. It isn’t a credit check and it has no effect on your credit score.

Where your information actually goes: to Stripe, not to us. Newish never sees or stores your bank account number, card number, or SSN. Stripe is a payments company used by millions of businesses, and they handle that data directly.

You can sell for as long as you like and let earnings build up in your wallet before you ever set this up. Nothing is required until you want the money in your bank account.

There are two different situations where an ID might come up, and they’re easy to mix up. Neither one is required to use Newish.

1. Getting verified as a seller — optional, and it’s a badge

You can submit a driver’s license, state ID or passport to become an ID-Verified “Trusted Seller”. Our team reviews it, and once approved you get a badge that shows “verified” on your profile and on every listing you post.

This is purely a trust signal. Buyers are spending real money with strangers, and a verified badge tells them there’s a confirmed person behind the account. It’s entirely optional — you can sell on Newish forever without it, and declining costs you nothing but the badge.

2. Withdrawing your earnings — required by law, and it goes to Stripe

When you withdraw money to your bank account, our payment partner Stripe may ask for a government ID or the last four digits of your SSN. This is a legal requirement for any company that sends people money, not a Newish policy. That information goes directly to Stripe — we never see it.

Quick way to tell them apart: if you’re being asked inside the Newish app under Profile → Verification, that’s the optional badge. If it comes up while you’re setting up a withdrawal, that’s Stripe.

What happens to the photos you send us

For the seller badge, your ID images are stored securely and are only accessible to our verification team. We use them to confirm your identity and nothing else. If we can’t read the images clearly we’ll ask you to resubmit, and we’ll tell you why.

No — and we’d strongly encourage you not to try.

All Newish transactions have to happen through the app, using a saved card or your Newish Wallet. Paying someone directly through a cash app, bank transfer, or in person isn’t allowed.

Why the rule exists

Everything that protects you only works on a Newish order:

  • Buyer protection. If an item never arrives, arrives damaged, or isn’t what was described, you can open a dispute and our team reviews it. Off-platform, there’s nothing to dispute and no one to review it.
  • Tracked shipping. We generate the prepaid label and attach tracking to the order. Both sides can see where the package is.
  • Seller protection. Sellers get paid through the wallet with a record of every transaction. If a buyer claims they never received an item, tracking backs you up.
  • A record of what was agreed. Your messages, the listing, and the order details are all attached automatically if anything goes wrong.

Off-platform payment is also the single most common setup for a scam on any marketplace. If someone pushes you to pay them directly, that’s usually the reason.

What to do if someone asks

Don’t send anything. Report the listing or the user from within the app and we’ll look into it. You don’t need to confront them or explain yourself.

Messages containing external links are blocked automatically, and accounts that try to move transactions off Newish can face warnings, restrictions, or permanent removal.

No. Newish accepts two payment methods:

  • A saved card, added securely through Stripe
  • Your Newish Wallet balance, which builds up from items you’ve sold and any refunds you’ve received

You can also combine them. If your wallet doesn’t cover the full amount, we’ll apply what’s there and charge the rest to your card automatically.

Why not Venmo or Zelle?

Both are designed for sending money to people you know and trust. Neither offers purchase protection for buying from a stranger. Once the money leaves, it’s gone — there’s no way to reverse it and no one to appeal to.

They also can’t be attached to a Newish order, which means no tracked label, no dispute option, and no record connecting the payment to what you bought.

If a seller asks you to pay by Venmo, Zelle, Cash App, or bank transfer, don’t. Report them from within the app and we’ll handle it. It’s the most common way people get scammed on marketplaces, and it’s against our rules.

Can I add money to my wallet directly?

Not at the moment. Your wallet fills from sales you make and refunds you receive. To buy something beyond your balance, you’ll use a card.

No. Every purchase on Newish has to go through the app, using a card or your Newish Wallet.

We know it can seem simpler — the seller gets their money faster and there’s no commission. But paying directly means giving up everything that makes buying from a stranger safe.

What you lose the moment money leaves the app

  • Your dispute rights. If the item never shows up, arrives damaged, or isn’t what was described, our team can review it and refund you. That only works on a Newish order. Pay directly and there’s no order, no dispute, and no one to escalate to.
  • Tracked shipping. We create the label and attach tracking automatically. Off-platform, you’re relying on the seller to send proof — and to actually ship.
  • A record of what was agreed. The listing, the photos, your messages, and the payment are all tied together. Off-platform, it’s your word against theirs.

Sellers lose out too. No proof of delivery if a buyer claims the item never came, no wallet record, and no protection at all if the buyer reverses the payment on their end.

A direct-payment request is the clearest scam signal on any marketplace. A seller who takes payment outside the app can simply never ship, and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Legitimate sellers don’t need you to.

If someone asks, don’t send anything. Report the listing or the user in the app and we’ll take it from there. You don’t need to reply or explain.

Off-platform payment is against our rules, and accounts that push for it can face warnings, restrictions, or permanent removal.

Refunds on Newish go to your Newish Wallet — always, no matter how you originally paid. If you paid by card, the money comes back as wallet balance rather than to your card.

From your wallet you can spend it on anything else on Newish, or withdraw it to your bank account.

When you’ll get a refund

  • The order is cancelled. Either side can request a cancellation before the item ships. Once both of you agree, you’re refunded in full.
  • The seller doesn’t ship in time. Sellers have a deadline to get the package to the carrier. If they miss it, we cancel the order automatically and refund you in full — you don’t need to do anything or chase anyone.
  • A dispute is decided in your favour. If an item doesn’t arrive, arrives damaged, or isn’t what was described, you can open a dispute after delivery. Our team reviews both sides and can issue a full or partial refund depending on what we find.
  • Something goes wrong on our end. A payment or processing error is refunded in full.

What isn’t a refund

Newish doesn’t offer general returns. Changing your mind, or an item not fitting, isn’t grounds for a refund — every sale is final unless one of the situations above applies. That’s why it’s worth asking the seller about fit, measurements, or condition before you buy. Message them from the listing; most are happy to help.

How long it takes

Refunds land in your wallet as soon as they’re processed, so you’ll usually see the balance update right away. Withdrawing to your bank takes longer, since that goes through our payment partner.

There is a support icon in the bottom right of our website (newish-app.com) that goes directly to our support team.

We aim to respond to every request within 24 hours.

Before you reach out, a few things you can handle in the app:

  • Problem with an order? Message the buyer or seller directly from the order screen. Most issues — a shipping question, a delay, a change of plan — get sorted faster between the two of you than through us.
  • Item not as described, damaged, or never arrived? Open a dispute from the order screen rather than emailing us. That routes it straight to our review team with your order details, tracking, and message history already attached.
  • Someone behaving badly, or a listing that shouldn’t be there? Use the report option on the listing or profile. It goes directly to our moderation team.
  • Tracking your package? Tap the tracking number on your order to go straight to the carrier.

When to contact us directly:

  • Your account is suspended or restricted and you want it reviewed
  • A withdrawal failed or your wallet balance looks wrong
  • Your ID verification was rejected and you’re not sure why
  • Something’s broken in the app
  • Anything the options above don’t cover

Help us help you faster: always include your order number if it’s about a purchase or sale, and a screenshot if something looks wrong on screen.

Why accounts get restricted

Accounts can be limited or suspended for things like listing prohibited items, repeated disputes decided against you, filing false disputes, abusive behaviour in messages, or trying to move a transaction off Newish. Some restrictions are applied by our team; others happen automatically when an account falls below our thresholds.

We use a graduated approach — a first issue usually means a warning, not a ban.

What each level means

  • Warning. Your account works normally. It’s a heads-up that something crossed a line.
  • Restriction. Some features are paused while the rest keep working.
  • Suspension. Your account is paused pending review by our team. This can happen automatically if your buyer credibility score drops below our threshold.
  • Permanent ban. Your account is closed and you won’t be able to sell or buy on Newish.

Your money is always returned to your bank from your Newish wallet prior to account abandonment.
